SEO is the set of techniques used to rank a website on the top of SERPs. In our previous article we discussed the 3 major types of SEO:
White Hat SEO
Black Hat SEO
Grey Hat SEO
There are billions of trillions of websites in the world and most of them don’t know about search engine optimization (SEO) and how to implement that. So here we are going to discuss the categories of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
SEO can be divided into 2 categories:
ON-PAGE SEO
OFF-PAGE SEO
In today’s post, we will be looking at On-Page SEO and some of the most effective ways to increase your page rankings on search engines.
1) Page Title:
Page titles are one of the most important parts of your website for SEO. Each page must have its own unique page title with keywords adjusted in it. According to Google a page title must not increase 160 characters and must represent your page. A title should be according to the content on the page.
For example, You could write a new B.B.Q pizza recipe that you have tried. For that, you can write the title “New B.B.Q Pizza Recipe” or “New B.B.Q Pizza Recipe for home”.
In this way, you will have more chances to rank your blog because you have included the keyword (B.B.Q Pizza Recipe) in your page title.
If you have a WordPress website there are many plugins to write an effective page title but my favorite is Yoast SEO because it helps in writing the best title according to our keyword.
2) Meta Description:
Most people forget to include Meta Description on their websites but this is a very important part of On-Page SEO. The meta description appears in the search results as the title of a page of Search Engines.
Let us continue our previous example of B.B.Q Pizza. Description of that would be “This easy B.B.Q Pizza recipe is possibly the most delicious, mouthwatering, pizza ever made.” As you can see it contains our keyword and has a better chance to rank on Search Engines.
3) Meta Keywords:
For each of your pages, you can include a set of keywords in the form of Meta tags. These keywords must be relevant to your page content. Although these are not very helpful in SEO because these are discarded by Google but these may still help to tell the Google Boat about what type of your page is.
For the WordPress site, I’d recommend ALL in One SEO Plugin as it comes with the Meta keywords option.
4) URL Optimization:
URLs are one of the major factors in search engine optimization. Friendly URLs are more suitable to search engines than the difficult to understand ones. For example, the URL www.site.com/keyword is friendlier than www.site.com/365/788/directory/keyword, etc.
As you can see for this page, the URL is https://www.tech-vision.net/on-page-seo-techniques/ I have included the keywords that are relevant for this post.
5) Heading Tags:
Headings are the tags that are used to break up the content into smaller sections and paragraphs to make it easier for people to read. These tags are H1, H2, H3….H6, etc.
H1 tags are used for the main heading of the page and H2 for sub-level heading, H3 for third-level heading and so on. This is why keyword rich headlines are more useful than generic ones. Make sure you write keyword-rich headings in the order of priority in H1, H2 and H3 title tags. They are used by many crawlers to differentiate important content.
6) Keywords Density:
Adjusting the keywords in your content is also known as Content Optimization. The repetition of keywords in your content is called Keywords Density. You must not over-optimize your content as it is the technique of black hat SEO which is not admirable by Google. Try to keep your keywords density between 2-5% because most of the search engines recommend this.
7) Image Optimization:
The use of images on your website makes it more appealing and eye-catchy. Every image has its own title. Try to treat it as the title of the page. Similarly, it has an option of an alt tag in which you can write straight your keyword. These alt tags help the search engines to tell about the image type and it will help you rank on Google Images.
8) Internal Linking:
Linking the web pages with one another using a hyperlink is known as internal linking in SEO. It is a great way to tell Google to crawl other pages because they connect with each other. This technique helps a lot to rank higher on Google results. It also helps the visitor to stay longer on site because he finds multiple things of his interest on your site. The longer the user stays on-site, the longer the session rate you will have. Longer session rate will not only improve your Google rankings but also improves the Alexa rank. One must be careful while using internal linking on your web page. Google might use a hyperlink as keyword for the page you are linking to.
Conclusion:
These are the major on-page techniques to rank a website on first page of search engines. With proper utilization of these techniques, you might get first-page exposure with just on-page SEO and content optimization. These will help to get your pages working better get your entire site crawled by search engine spiders. These will help increase the value of internal pages and these will build the relevancy of internal pages to specific keyword phrases.
